Well then.... lets go back to your opening post.
You want an app that will allow downloading through Safari. Well dTunes does this.
If you find an iPhone compatible site, which allows you to download the file then go for it.
Your statements confuse me, you say that it's not stealing if you own the original.
Tell me why you want to download it when you have the original, why don't you just convert them on your desktop and sync them to your iPhone through iTunes????????

I can post a direct link into dTunes and it will download it?
Two reasons:
1) I'm at work, most of my iphone tinkering is done at work. I don't have my movie collection with me.
2) Turning a DVD into a legit iphone format takes time, and more importantly software that I don't have. Even with the software, you're talking an hour minimum if you were proficient in it. Getting the DVD onto your computer, converting VOB's and stripping out menus, converting to an MPEG, making sure the screen format is adjusted propery (4:3, etc). I can download a 100MB version in minutes, why spend 1-2 hours?

You're correct, dTunes isn't a cracked app.
Jailbreaking and unlocking aren't a violation of the ToS. You have to use the jailbreak perform a malicious act, for it to become illegal.

But it's modifying Apple's copyrighted operating system in a manner they don't allow?
The malicious act makes sense, but an act doesn't have to me malicious to be illegal. Take winterboard, you don't think someone had submitted a theme app to the App Store? Apple said no, we don't want that on the iPhone. Cracked apps like winterboard get around that.
Seems like we're hitting on semantics now, and I don't actually disagree with you, but I'm sure there are some programs (like the free tether programs) that are illegal, or at least violate contracts/ToS.

Ok, but AFAIK, there have only been a few people actually charged. All of them performed malicious acts. I believe David Ritz was the first one. He performed a command line zone transfer to trap a spammer.

Again, just because a few were charged instead of many, doesn't make it legal. Millions of people illegally DL mp3's on an hourly basis. How many stories do you hear about them being prosecuted? Doesn't happen often, but doesn't make it anymore right.
But I digress, and to keep the thread on topic I found the exact type of app I was originally looking for (available through Cydia):
The app "Safari Download Plug-In" will let you download
This plugin supports downloading of various archive files (zip, rar, dmg) as well as exes, torrents, and all media types that the built-in media player supports. Choose between downloading and streaming at the push of a button.

I can't believe this thread it still running. This discussion is on the hairy edge of reason.
This needs to be locked.

Actually its a relatively easy process. You can use handbrake for Mac or cloneDVD Mobile for PC. Pop your movie into your drive, select the iphone presets and hit start.......45 minutes later your done. Drag it into your music/movie folder download the cover art from Wikipedia and then sync with iTunes.

Well first off, that software is $50. And you would need additional software (AnyDVD) to successfully rip certain DVD's which is another $40 ... and that is only the mobile version. I'd have to buy even more software to rip it for viewing through my PC at home.
Why would I spend almost $100, and 45 minutes, when I can spend $0 and have it ready in 10 minutes?
Nothing illegal or against forum policies are being discussed. Download applications, whether for a computer or mobile phone, are 100% legit and offer many benefits that enhance file handling.

You have a point. However, if you have a Mac, I believe Handbrake is free and no additional software is required. I have a pretty extensive collection of DVD's and found both CloneDVD Mobile and AnyDVD to be well worth the price. They are updated quite often and the updates are free. Both Handbrake and CloneDVD Mobile offer several format choices and I have had no problem watching them on my iPhone, Mac or TV.
I'll bet that it most likely works out to more than 10 minutes if you factor the time it takes to find the videos on the net and to find them in the format and quality you want. The cost for the programs was justified in my mind as I know both the quality and format I'm getting......I just que them up and go about whatever else I was doing...
