Default Iphone PC Suite works with jailbroken 2.0 v1 iPhone!

My favorite iPhone utility (Iphone PC Suite) works with jailbroken v1 iPhones with the 2.0 firmware installed. If you don't know what this is, it has a pretty slick interface that enables disc access to the iPhone. You can also back up your iPhone with it. And it has sections for summerboard themes, custom ringtones, wallpapers, etc. I'm not sure if the summerboard themes work yet though. I'll check in a while.

EDIT: Sadly summerboard themes don't work. In fact not much really does work. Right now it's mainly useful for backing up your iPhone.

After you jailbreak your v1 iPhone, hook it up to your computer and start PC Suite. It will tell you that you don't have some daemon tools installed on your iPhone. After you press the install button it will ask you to restart your iPhone, press a button, then restart your iPhone once more, then press another button. When I did this, it told me that it failed. But it really didn't fail. Now iPhone PC Suite can connect to my iPhone and I can backup my Voicenote sound files.

*iPhone PC Suite might even work with the 3G but I don't know. Maybe someone with a 3G can confirm that it works.

**Obviously I take no responsibility for any harm that happens to your iPhone should anything go wrong. Perhaps it will brick your phone, but mine was fine.

word of warning - the pc suite backup is *NOT* very good for backing up! Dont get me wrong, i use pc suite all the time, but i found when backing up, especially if youve added your own location for example /Applications/* (even if you use the full real path, not the sym linked one) it creates the folder but doesnt copy the files inside the sub folders! It does this itermittently on different folders when use wilcards. I only realised this after I tried to find apps that i thought i had backed up to reinstall them manually via ssh. Much better to tar it yourself and copy this folder over to the pc as a copy of the backup.

Thank you.. it's working on transfer, not on setting up the permissions.

Sorry, I should have been more clear I guess. By backing up I didn't mean that you should use the backup feature. I had problems with the backup tool too. I meant that it's good for backing up by using the files tool and downloading the files from there. It works okay backing up that way.

Using the files tool pc suite is also good for adding ebooks to the jailbroken ebook reader. And I would guess that it would be good for adding NES apps, although I don't know if you need to change the permissions to make that work. And as alnath indicated, you can't set permissions with pc suite.

FYI:
Sometimes it loses its link or something with the iPhone and stops displaying the file system contents. Just restart PC Suite when that happens.
