Default visiting orlando on launch day

I live in Denver, but will be in the Orlando area on launch day. I'll be at the Orange Lake Resort in Kissimmee. I did a search for the closest Cingular/ATT stores and have a few picked. But, since I don't live there, I'm wondering if you guys could tell me where the best place to go might be. Where's the closest corp store that's likely to have the lowest traffic?

Thanks for any tips.

This is a pretty crappy report on the iPhone by Fox 35. I'll give it a D-

Stay down there by Orange Lake. If there is a cingular store down there by you, I would suggest going there. I doubt many tourists will be wanting to camp out for a phone while on vacation. If you'd rather go to an apple store, the closest one to you would be at the mall of millenia. Just go east on I-4 to the Conroy exit.

This is so frustrating for me. On one hand, I want to just camp out starting at 7am after work friday morning at the cingular store close to work. On the other hand, I want to go to the apple store at millenia to experience a real apple debut. I'm guessing the line is going to be much longer and much more chaotic at the mall......

comments?

Anyone have any updates on the Orlando iPhone scene?

I did talk to a few people at the Apple Store in Millennia yesterday and they said "We know nothing" and "All the people who say they heard something from someone don't know anything either". They, probably like ATT employees, are in the dark. I didn't expect them to say anything new, but thought I'd kill some time chatting away while I was getting my airport fixed.

Well I'm just glad that so far none of you have mentioned the corporate store I plan on heading to. That's a good sign. I don't know anyone personally who is getting the phone on the first day and a lot of these people make very good incomes. I'm thinking the iphone may be easier to get than the ps3 was and that a lot of people will show up in the afternoon just to see it in person thanks to the hype. The big issue with my friends and coworkers is that they all are on Tmobile or Verizon and dont want to break their contracts. When you really think about it, there's actually a lot of roadblocks that could stop this phone from selling out like the Wii. People just want to see it more than anything.

Anyway, I'll be arriving at 9am or whenever the store opens. I already talked to the employees and since they are going to close at 4:30 and kick everyone out before re-opening at 6pm-10pm, I'm going to have a small cooler and folding chair and wait outside the door where the line will form. I plan on waiting 9 hours for this thing if required.

Don't you want some company, we are all in this together, right?

Seriously, I don't know where I'm going yet. I am in a good location, so I can easily get to any ATT/Apple store north of Millennia. I am hoping information is released about how Apple Stores will handle existing ATT customers. If that is favorable, I will wait at an Apple Store. The crowd will probably be better and waiting inside will be nice! I just think the ATT employees are "kind of" excited, while the Apple employees are beyond excited.

Like I said before, I work with a bunch of techs and they are all exciting about the phone, but are holding out for different versions or contracts to expire. I have a friend that's going to go and wait around with me, but isn't going to buy one. He's just going for the whole "experience" I guess. I don't get off work until noon, and then I'll hit a the most promising line by 1-2pm. Hopefully that's earlier enough to get a phone. I just need to avoid the afternoon rain if it's not an Apple Store.

and that is why you are APPLEFREAK...

I love it. I also plan on being there early. I will be at Millennia...I am looking forward to the event of the whole thing.

Hoping for the company of other Apple Freaks, and not ebayers.

e-mail me if you plan to be at the Mall so we can say hey...

Yeah I meant it's a good sign because we didn't all paint targets on the same stores, so I'm guessing if we're a sample of the population as a whole, then everyone should be relatively well dispersed.

While I'd like to go to an Apple store and I know they'll have the most phones, I don't like how they are always in malls and therefore a prime target for a LOT of traffic. Also, Millenia attracts all the wealthy people who are most likely to buy this phone at launch.

I'm in Winter Park, I'll be looking at either the corporate store on 436 or red bug. Probably 436 near altamonte mall. I walked in there the other day and it was pretty dead...I was the only one asking about the iphone.

Well, I made my mind up. I'll be at the Florida Mall at 1000 on the 29th. It's a bit closer to me than millenia, plus it'll be much cooler sitting in line inside a mall than outside on a hot day! Hopefully they don't give me any crap for bringing my camping chair with me.

I did call both apple stores and asked how they would be dealing with the lines. The standard "I don't know" was given for both stores. I asked if they were going to be issuing numbers as line holders in case you needed to get up and take care of "business". Millenia said "I don't think a line will be allowed" and Florida Mall said "I don't think so".

You know I really can't believe that these Malls think they can just say no lines allowed. This is going to be a major event, and they will HAVE to control the crowds! I know they are all uptight, but they can't just have everyone milling around and then have them rush the store when they re-open at 6.

They should form the lines in the middle of the mall to keep the stores from being blocked, or give out numbers...though I doubt the numbers would work.

I might just call the Malls and ask what they plan to do. Probably get the same "I don't know" crap that everyone else is giving out.

If they were smart they would allow the lines with all the hype and coordinate with the local media to capitalize on all this hub-bub.
