So - I wouldn't normally care, but I've seen some bad info posted with no proof to back their claim. I belong to another forum, and I drive a Prius. I didn't buy it to "save the environment", but I bought it because I liked it, and it gets great mileage. I'm posting a link that leads to a thread that has a VERY long conversation(s) debunking myths and claims.
I'm no pro on the matter, but of of the guys on that forum are pros, and they TRULY are fired up about it, lol.
I just thought I'd post this, perhaps to clear up some confusion that I've seen over the past few days. Feel free to flame me - I don't care one way or the other. I just like to have facts to back things up.
Nice... I was looking for something like this earlier as well I was peeping snopes, but they had nothing. I'll check this out after dinner.
No problem. My favorite one is when people say "you'll never make your money back" I always say "how much money does YOUR car make you?"
And funny enough - out in socal, my car has APPRECIATED. By blue book, about 4k, by nada, about 1k. I've NEVER had a car do that before.
I sound really fired up, but I assure you, I'm not, lol. I don't hang on that site a bunch. I have a couple hundred posts, if that over there (rxmxsh). Clearly, you can see I hang on EiC much more.

I think if you do the math, you would have to own the car for ten years before you saw your savings....
Car's price tag (compared to a similar gas honda) minus amount of gas you save....equals....
I'm not really passionate about the subject but it looks like a really unique car. Congrads.

When I get home, I'll post up my mileage log (yea, i'm that crazy). Like I said, I bought the car b/c I liked it. It wasn't crazy expensive. I walked out the door at 21k. Cars in that range get no where near the mileage I get. My best tank was 72mpg. My worst has been around 38mpg.
I like it - and yea it's a "different car". Especially in terms of looks. Everyone is always impressed at how much room it has. The front passengers can have their seat all the way back, and there's still plenty of room for the rear passengers.
It's not the fastest thing on the road, lol, but it has pretty good pickup b/c of the electric engine and the whole instantaneous torque thing...
Holding resale value is an often-forgotten hidden cost of ownership. I'd say people that buy anything hybrid these days are gonna do just fine in that regard. Easily enough to offset the initial cost or cost of battery maintenance, I would guess.

My responses will slow after this - heading home....
But, as of last year, if you had to get a battery, and pay for it out of pocket - it's a little over 2k. Also, my battery is under warranty until 150k.
