ok I know this is "on topic" but the section that I already posted this has gotten zero traffic for the last eight hours.

I purchased a couple of bb king albums and a son seals album frm iTunes and all went well. However, I can't get rid of the crazy iTunes format that it downloads in. Here in lies the problem.... I really don't want that music on iTunes at this exact moment. I just want to add it to my external harddrive where all my music is kept. I move a little here and there to my laptop and on to iTunes when I need to change what's on my iPhone. When I make CDs, I elect to use windows media player, not iTunes so that I don't have delete it later or mess up what's on he iPhone... Whatever the reason, I want this music that I PURCHASED from iTunes in WMA or mpeg3 format just like all other one hundred gigabites of music that I have. This "protected" format will keep me from continuing to buy music from iTunes. If I have to go thru this crap, why would I willngly put myself thru such heartache? I'm not giving away music nor am I doing ANYTHING that would remotley resemble anything illegal. I'm just trying to organize my music the way I want and to play it the way I want to.....not have somebody else tell what format to use and what freaking program that I have to play it. Jesus.

Suggestions please. Then I will you alone. Thank you so very much for your help.

as a brute-force tactic, you can burn the protected songs onto a CD, and then re-import them into iTunes.

I know a lot of people prefer other online music vendors (like amazon) because they don't have protections built into them.

The previous suggestions work for me as well, but it is a pain to have to do that.
