As a user of blackberry devices (for work) I am hooked to that little red flashing light whenever a new email arrives. Ok so maybe a flashing red light is not the slickest looking thing on the block but I’d rather know when my push mail arrives. Isn't this the main purpose of instant notification.
Even when I have the phone set to vibrate I often miss the notification, if I have stepped away from my desk for a minute or when it’s my pocket. I find the vibrate is very weak!
Just a little bugbear I thought I’d share.

Interesting...I would not mind something like that, would be nice to know you have any alerts for that matter, ie missed call, text, vmail, email, this would avoid the "why didn't you respond!?" question.
iPhone can not be perfect. Only get really really close.
