Yes, start the trial and then when you get the box, you just enter the code. Thats what I did so I got 14 months for my 12 month purchase at $69 for MM.

20g is alot of storage, but using it to back up my photo galleries, I have a feeling I am going to start to fill it up (Especially with iphone video!).

Another 20GB is only $50 a year more. As far as backups, you might want to look at Backblaze, Mozy and Carbonite. They all do online backups for about $50/year. I use Backblaze myself.

I just started a Mobileme trial. As far as the 20 GB of storage space, can you link to the pictures without giving people access to the rest of your pics? If you don't buy a subscrition elsewhere (like on ebay) does the credit card payment automatically kick in towards the end of the trial so the switch over to the active payed subscription is seemless? Or is there a gap where you have no service?

When you are on the trial, you get warned as you near the end. You log in and enter the software licenses and it tells you that your authorized to a date a year from the day you enter it.

As to the albums, you can select to lock them so no one can see them when they enter your gallery.me.com/xxxx where the xxx is your user name.

In mobile me they show a little icon in the bottom right of the album.

I think if you email the link and its locked, there might be a password. I am trying to figure this out myself as I have some friends I want to share some pictures with they do not want them available to all online.

So, it doesn't automatically charge you then? Do I need to reply to that warning email when I get it authorizing them to charge the card they have on file?

If you lock a picture and then later post a link to that picture (on say a forum), can people see that picture but not the others you have locked, or will they be able to see nothing? I just kind of wanted to use it like photobucket, does it work like that?

Put the code in and it will not charge your card. No code then it will charge if you choose to continue beyond the trial. If someone knows your me.com address, they can go to gallery.me.com/meusername and see any albums you do not have hidden.

Agreed. I just renewed my MM through an eBay member for $32 for the year. Its a sub-account that comes with 5GB storage but all other full features are there. Also (in case no one has tried yet) I have my iPhone set up for Mail/Contacts/Calendars/Find My iPhone and I also set up the same mobile me account on my wife's iPhone for Calendars (so whoever makes a change/new entry it syncs both iPhones) and find my iPhone. I can use Find My iPhone with both iPhones through this one sub-account which is nice. As for her contacts...Google Sync. She doesn't need push e-mail so in the end, I feel like I've won.

I believe nothing.

The me.com security features are rudimentary at best. You can set up galleries/folders with usernames and passwords, but you can't nest or set up access hierarchies as far as I can tell.
