Default Exchange/MobileMe Questions

I am trying to decide if a hosted Exchange account will work for me or if I need MobileMe?

1. Does the iPhone support the syncing of Contact categories over the air?
2. If I have multiple calendars setup in Outlook will they sync OTA iPhone?
3. If I have multiple calendars setup does the iPhone prompt me for which one to use when creating a new entry?
4. How well does the iPhone support recurring calendar events?

Thanks in advance.

1. the iphone does not support catagories but 3rd parties will do that for you. Though you would have to manually add your contacts to the Cats.
2. yes, the iphone can synch multiple calendars within "My Calendars". I don't think it will synch shared calendars (if it does i can't figure it out)
3. Yes. When creating a calendar event on your iphone you will be asked which calendar you would like to add it to. YOur choices are the calendars that are located in "My Calendars" The calander events show up as different colors if you choose to view the "all" calanders option.
4. I use this extensively with no problems. The options for recurring events is a more limited when you create an event via the iphone.

Crupp,

I take it you use Exchange? Have you used MobileMe? I would like to use Exchange since I will be able to use my own domain. I am just wondering what features if any I will be missing by using Exchange instead of MobileMe.

Thanks

I don't use mobile me. I do use a corporate exchange server with no problems. I get wireless synch. as fast as the BB guys do.

There is a very simple workaround for this. If you use Folders for your contacts in Exchange, they do come over as 'Groups' on the iphone. Works great in both directions.

Bear in mind, once the category is selected and you create the appointment, you cannot change the category through iPhone, only through me.com or a desktop calendar app. Also, iPhone tends to randomly choose which calendar is the default...you can change this in Mail/Contacts/Calendar settings.

Try adding google calendar to your computer it will work with exchange and MMe account. I have my work PC on exchange and VPN 3 lap tops, iPhone and a Mac mini. They all are updated when one is.

good luck
