Calendar sync with no previous backup

I bought MobileMe yesterday, thinking that it would help with what I needed, but I am finding that it isn’t all it was described in the Apple Store to me.

Here is what I currently use:

Version 1 iPhone
PC computer with Windows XP
Gmail for my email (on Phone and on computer)
Calendar – but only on the iPhone (and I use it in areas where I don’t get wifi or edge)

The reason I bought Mobile Me was to be able to sync my calendar constantly as I DO NOT use Outlook or have it installed on my computer.

However to set-up MobileMe, the calendar will be erased to what is in MobileMe. How can I save the information entered on my iPhone already (remember I do not have any programs installed for this and the iTunes says “no supported calendar application)? Is there a way to sync the iPhone calendar with google calendar? Should I download Outlook for a day and sync the calendar and then move it to mobile me?

PS-What does the me.com address do that gmail doesn’t? I’ve never had an issue with the push email from gmail.
