Default The Beast is Complete

My G5 was in need of an upgrade and was looking to downsize my computer equipment. So, sent my DELL away via a quick sale on CraigsList and ordered up a new MacPro.

Picked up (2) new Western Digital hard drives (one for Time Machine) and used the other for my main drive. Took the stock drive and used BootCamp to install Vista. I then took my 500 GB and partitioned 100GB for Windows XP. Despite being OEM versions, I was able to activate them twice (once for Bootcamp and once for VMWare Fusion). Added 8GB of matched pair RAM and the beast is complete.

Could not be happier with the rig. My wife is tired of hearing about it and reminds me that it's all I've talked about for the last few days. I keep telling her, "I'm building a supercomputer". It was super out of the box, now it's just plain mean and super. It's like getting 3 computers in one.

BTW, the improvements on the inside of the MacPro vs my G5 is just amazing. The hard drive bays to RAM installation, for the most part is easy as pie.

Sounds excellent. Throw Ubuntu or some Linux distro on there and really impress the wife

Oh yeah, that'll impress her.

I had this master plan in place since December. I originally was waiting to update my Powerbook. After Macworld, I decided to upgrade my desktop rather than my laptop, since there was no info on a new MacBook Pro. Glad I did... I use this thing each day, every day, from morning to night. The laptop usually gets pulled out when my wife is dragging me away from the desktop or the rare vacation.

It officially got a bit more difficult for her to drag me away. On that note, time to retire for the evening. Hopefully, the servers will cooperate tonight.

But can your beast do this yet? (on Leopard)

1) Run XP
2) Run Vista
3) watch House?

All at the same time...

At only 44% of processor power? (You probably can...It's a MacPro)

Let's see it then. My sad old Dell Latitude is beaming with pride if it runs Outlook plus Firefox without griping too much BTW, your new avatar is better looking ...

Yeah, right...Prove it! You can only use a screenshot and reduce it to a 10x7 pic to fit on these boards.

personally, I don't see how any personal computer (Don't call it PC, please) could do any better.

IT'S A MACPRO!

("Mine is Bigger than Yours" category)

Jeez guys, I was joking. I haven't actually tried it yet with Vista installed on a partition. I have XP on a partition and that's about it OSs. But I do have a sexah-er interface than you.

EDIT: Just tried watchign Heroes, and using XP to view a lash page and it worked seemlessly. I also had iChat running in on OSX.
