Unfortunately, as I found out, the VMware converter (to convert the Parallels VM into a fusion-compatible VM) is an .exe file, which means you have to use Parallels to process it, and once Parallels has started, it of course crashes the Mac.

I'm not sure if there is any other way to do this, but I'll keep searching.

While I was reading this I was wondering why Apple hasn't made a Boot Camp extension that allows you to run Windows while still in OSX. I'd imagine it'd be better than Parallels since it's made by the people who made the Os themselves.

G , I hope you get your Mac/Win nightmare fixed soon without it costing you even more money than you've already spent.

Since malware/virus can turn a once running great system upside down, do you think your only recourse right now is to wipe the entire system clean and start over again?

See, this is one of the reasons why I'd never want Win on my Mac. The potential for viruses/malware, no matter how safe we think we are being, is to high for me to take the chance.

Continuing the saga: I found a beta utility that was supposed to convert my Parallels machine into a Fusion one. It did, but when WindowsXP-via-Fusion starts, it aborts itself right away with an error message. No luck there.

I tried to create a new machine from the XP CD I have, and I can't. I get an error message every few seconds that file xyz won't install, that I can continue, but the OS might not run without it. Dozens and dozens of messages. And guess what, it DOESN'T start...

On the good side, everything I'm describing is on the MBA.
Parallels, so far, is running fine on MBP and MP.

Speaking of windoze/viruses on the Mac, I don't think the viruses can propagate from the PC to the Mac. If you thrash your Windoze stuff, I think the problem is gone. At least, I hope so

WOW! Seems like you're not doing any better now than you were when your problems started. Can you just get rid of everything Windows and start over- Will wiping it clean remove the nasty bugs that are causing you so many problems?

I hope so. I will wipe out my MBA of everything windows and try to install from scratch. But that's for another day. I've had enough for now!
