Have you tried starting up using your OS X installation disc?

Here are some more links:

those disks I haven't seen since the day I bought the laptop! I'll try them links u gave me! Its been a real nightmare all this, no doubt you'll hear from me again soon! I'm going buying a FireWire hard drive n leopard I think. Is there any way of totally formatting the hard drive once this problems fixed and starting again with a nice new operating system, because I just want to start again

Cheers johnboy

of course you can format it. During the new setup of Leopard, use the disk utilities to format the drive (under "Utilities" in the menu at the top) .

Excuse my ignorance but by formatting the hard drive will this wipe everything and will my hard drive be totally back to the way it was when it was first installed! But obviously with no operating system! I'm going buying leopard within the next hour, and I just want to erase n start again.

I just need to put all my stuff on my external hard drive first!
How long does it take to do roughly and is it easy

yeah, formatting your HD will erase everything (including the OS). It should take about 90 minutes to 2 hours to format your HD and install Leopard.
