Default If I buy MacBook now, will Apple upgrade to Leopard within 30 days free?

I may go buy a MacBook today, and am uncertain if I should wait for Apple to release Leopard. Will Leopard be standard on MacBooks at release, and will Apple allow me to upgrade to Leopard for free if I buy my MacBook today?

if you buy macbook on the day that leopard was release then you will have your macbook with leopard on it ( that's bundle sell item ..thats what apple called it ). if you buy macbook today and leopard release later on then i am afraid you have to pay for upgrading your os from tiger to leopard by buying leopard package.

hope it help you

I've heard rumors of Macbook updates/all new laptop (tablet). So it would be a good idea to wait and see.

Default Don't wait on Leopard

I would not wait on Leopard. I know there are some features coming with Leopard that are cool, but for 8 out of 10 Mac users they are moot. Go ahead and buy your Mac before you go on vacation. You will have plenty of time to tinker about and learn the Apple way ( a learning curve so short as to almost not exist!) Let Apple issue a couple of updates for Leopard, have a look at it at the Apple store, then make up your mind about buying it. I ran Panther ( OS X 10.3) for two years after Tiger came out before I upgraded. Never did upgrade the kids iBooks, just bought them new MacBooks instead. If you are going to wait, wait until after Mac Worl in January and see what new products Apple introduces. Supposedly a new MacBook is coming. Welcome aboard.

Thanks for the replies.

I did end up buying the "middle" MacBook. I'm not big on black as with the plastic shell, I think scratches would show up like a sore thumb.

So far, all I can say is that I LOVE this thing. Glad I didn't wait. And the funny thing is, a few years ago I was so set against everything Mac, even though I had "friend experience" with them. Mac seems to keep everything more readily accessible than PC.

Now my next decision is whether or not I want to make the full jump to Mac platform from PC by supplementing my 'book with a Mac desktop. I custom built my current PC desktop and it is a 2.4ghz core 2 duo overclocked to 3.2ghz, 2 gigs RAM, 640MB GeForce 8800GTS factory OC'd video card, 320gig SATA2 7200rpm hdd, and an Asus P5N32-SLI(if I recall of the top of my head) motherboard. With the case, power supply, Windows Vista Premium, and SATA DVD burner, I built the system for about $1500. Not bad compared to what this same system would cost through any company.

Could anyone give me some advice on Mac desktops that would give about equal performance in both processor power and Video/Game performance?

Thanks.

Steve

I just purchased a new 24" iMac 3 days ago. It is my first mac and I am a bit lost on how to do a lot of very simple tasks. I will learn it over time though I am sure. I just wish I waited until the 26th so I could get Leopard. I will have had this computer for less than 2 weeks when Leopard comes out. Same damn thing happened to me with iPhone and it's rebates. I like Apple, but my timing with them is friggin' awful. I am not starting my new life with Apple very well.

See my other post on this page. Apple is upgrading my OS to Leopard for free. You had to have purchased your Mac on October 1, 2007 or later to qualify for the free upgrade. It's like $10 for shipping, though. You are going to be able to upgrade yours.

Ya, I am still learning the system, too. But you know what? I AM starting to like the directness and ease of navigation better than any version of dirty Windows. Tiger is so much more customizable for me and everything seems to integrate better than I was used to.

And wow, I work with Nikon .NEF picture files which average about 15MB each at 10 megapixels, and I breeze through them MUCH faster than I do on my OC'd 2.4ghz Core2Duo(OC to 3.0ghz) 640MB Geforce 8800GTS, 2GB 800Mhz Ram PC. I got the "middle" MacBook @ 2.16ghz, 1GB 667RAM, and on board video. I'm pretty shocked at the performance difference between these two systems in handling .NEF.

Have fun with the iMac!
