Default First time mac user. Couple Questions

first i want to say this machine is awesome..

my questions are.
is there anyway that i can get ichat to stay open and connected while i close the computer screen.

when i import music.
there is one copy where i put it and then another in the itunes music folder.
does that mean im taking double the memory?

thanks im sure ill have more questions. but those are the starters

No. That puts your computer and the hard drive to sleep.

"Where you put it..."? Not clear on that, but poke around in your iTunes prefs. There's a setting that will make a copy of all your tunes into the iTunes Music Folder to keep them organized (that's probably what it's on). I would recommend keeping it at that setting, but trashing the extras. So what you would do is drag the music into iTunes and delete the originals. Done, and done.
