Default Ok Time to Buy?

Going to be starting some more "Graphic-Intense" classes this semester, I think I'm going to go pick up a new MBP. Is there anything that should stop me from buying one right now (other than snow leopard coming out in September?) And Should I get it from Best Buy or the Apple Store? Do you get the free iPod Touch at Best Buy?

My BlackBook is starting to get a little sluggish...

Nice. Best Buy will match Apple.com's prices. Did you get the free iPod?

Yes, they were also running a promo where you get:

iWork '09
Mobile Me
Wireless Mighty Mouse
Free computer setup

For $149. I asked them to switch the "Setup" with an incase bag ($60) and they did. I also bought the "Black Tie Protection" which seems to blow Apple Care out of the water.

I'm also considering the purchase of the MBP. I'm thinking of the 15 inch for $1648.00 on Amazon. I can get it with no tax and free shipping. Now is a good time with the new Snow Leopard being released by next week. This would be my very first Apple computer. The only other Apple products I have bought were the Nano iPod and iPhone 3GS. I have only been a PC/Windows user, but I feel I need to learn about the Mac and its OS.

Here's the thing to keep in mind with the Macbook Pro and what Apple has done ever since the WWDC change. Its no longer as easy as just choosing 13' 15' or 17' now.

For the OP, you said you want a Graphic intensive model so that puts the 13's out of the question, they dont match the performance you'll require. So now its onto the 15's which are great however YOU MUST READ THE SPECS.

The 15' thats $1699.00 does NOT have the additional graphics card to aid you with graphic intensive applications such as CAD, Logic Pro, Final cut, Adobe etc. Sure it's capable of running them but you'll see alot of the beachball.

The next 15' for $1,999.00 has a 256MB additional graphics card.

The other 15' and the 17' have everything but their price REALLY reflects this. They both come with the 512MB version of the additional graphics card as well as the option to upgrade processor speed to make doing processes quicker. These ones can run anything like the application is as small as iChat with great speed and next to no lag.

A friend of mine just got a 17" MBP for a real good price from the Apple refurb store. The only things I don't like about the unibody MBP is the black keys; I have a 1st. gen 15". Second, my friend had a problem the other day. While he was on the phone with tech support, I discovered that the CMD key had stuck in the down position. The tech acknowledged that as more of a problem with the thinner keyboards nowadays.

YMMV

I just ended up buying the most expensive 15" they had at $2300, I haven't looked back. My MBP is running CS4 Master like a champ! I didn't want the 17" because it just seemed..."too big" for a laptop the I will be taking back and forth to class.

I will buy the lower end 15" MacBook Pro. I can't justify paying over $2000 for a laptop. Now with the release of Snow Leopard announced for Friday, I will wait probably the first week of September so the new OS can come installed.

EDIT:

I may go with the mid-range now at 2.66 Ghz. for just a little under $2000.

I've literally just heard that Snow-leopard is coming to the UK this friday. I don't know whether there are any truths to this or not. It's only Ł29.00 as well. Bargain.
