We had like 30 MacBook Pros turn up at work the other day. Turns out the big wigs in the marketing department want them over PC laptops. Sucks sitting there looking at a stack of MacBook Pros, knowing you cannot have one

Fingers crossed, door bell checked and working.... the countdown is on.

I went with the 2.5 Ghz -- matte display. That provides double the video SDRAM and L2 cache. I could care less about the extra 50GB on the hard drive and I doubt there is much difference between 2.4 and 2.5.

Did you know you can go through the education section and get a discount (online only)? Apple does not check.

We tried it the other day. A friend purchased a MacBook through the education section and not once did they ask for any proof of being a student. He got the laptop and everything.

It's always those lucky marketing guys who get all the Macs. I've worked for a few big corporations and finding Macs was like searching for the Lochness Monster. If you were lucky, you'd see an old G3 that was running OS 9 and it was reserved for the "graphic designer". I was able to snag a PowerBook G3 when I worked at Canon. It was the best investment they ever made. I did ads that were placed in magazines and set up a sales database running off FileMaker. People in my group used the PC version and it worked like a charm.

I didn't fare so well at Olympus. I ended up using my wife's iBook, which was painful. They also saved bundles on outsourced work by having me do it in-house. I was the marketing guy who wanted to be the graphic designer. In most cases, I ended up both -- with our without a company sanctioned Mac.

I have a business account rep. Not sure where it falls, but I saved a few bucks. Also ordered a Mobile Me family pack, so I can outfit everyone with push email. It was like $109 and that'll extend my dot mac too.

I have to get Apple Care sometime this year. The hard drive on my PowerBook crapped out in year 3 of the AppleCare, so I'm not going to take any chances.

Ah, I know the feeling. When my MacBook was shipping, I was checking the tracking page every five minutes. It was great to see the "On FedEx truck for delivery" message.

Try this site:

http://www.iship.com/trackit/track.aspx

They usually have more in-depth tracking info. Sad I know, but knowing the driver's name makes it feel like it's going to get here quicker.

Browsing now from the new MacBook Pro. It's very nice. Honestly, it's very similar to my 3 year old Powerbook -- at least size and form factor. The screen is MUCH brighter. Running the 50,000 or so software updates now. Used .mac to sync all my bookmarks and I'm good to go.

I love it. Loved the MBA, but this feels more comfortable coming from the Powerbook.
