ok well that was just an estimate I guess if doesn't really matter how much it is as long as its good. plus I dont need to pay for windows since my work could provide it for free.

Oh shoosh, you're just talking nonsense now.

As for Vista, it's a disappointment. Given the choice I'd stay with XPSP2 (SP3 when it's released). No wonder MS are keen to get Windows 7 out as soon as possible.

If you're getting it for free then, yeah, consider a Macbook.

ok, so now comes the hard part. which one should i get?

the MB is decent. the air is good, but i dont like that it doesnt have an optical drive. and the MBP might be perfect, but also a little expensive.

decisions, decisions.....

Unless you absolutely have to have the thinnest portable in the world, I'd personally go for the MacBook Pro as it's only $200 more than the Air. For that extra $200, you'd get a full compliment of ports (USB, ethernet, etc.), more storage space, user replaceable battery, optical drive, bigger screen, stereo speakers, etc.

Then of course if budget is a big concern, the MacBook would be the way to go.

i guess im just stuck deciding between the MB or MBP. besides the price, of course, what are the main differences between the two?

The MBP is a little faster with 2.2GHz in the base model VS. the 2.0GHz on the base model MB. Also, the 15.4" MBP has an LED backlit screen VS. fluorescent on the MB.

Then, of course, there's the backlit keyboard, Firewire 800, Express card slot, better graphics card, MUCH better speakers, bigger hard drive and more RAM included...all significant benefits in the MBP.

I had a MB for about 7 months, but sold it last June when they updated the MBP. I do graphics work for a living though so I needed a faster 'pro' level machine.

I use the MBP, but mainly have it because I do media editing for work. I prefer the design of the the MacBook over it, but the Pro is more.. pro.

Oh, I forgot one thing. In favor of the MB, the hard drive is user-replaceable/upgradeable. This is not the case with the MBP.
