Default Old Computer Died, Sync to New Computer?!

Hey guys, I have a problem and I'm hoping someone on this board can help me. Two days ago, my iBook refused to start. I took it to the local Apple store, hoping they could fix the problem, but in the end, the problem was the hard-drive.

The problem I'm having now (besides trying to find the money to either replace the hard-drive or buy a new computer) is that all my music was on my computer, and in turn, on my iPhone. Besides going to a data recovery specialist (which I hear can cost upwards of $1000), is there any way I can get the music off the iPhone? The guy at the Genius Bar said there is no official Apple-approved way of doing this, but he recommended that I check online because, "there are some clever people out there."

So here's what I'm looking for: let's say I buy a new computer (a Macbook, for instance) and sync it to my iPhone. As far as I know, the iPhone will clear all the music that is currently on it and replace it with what is on the new computer (which would be nothing). How can I keep this from happening? I know this has to have happened to someone else. For instance, if someone dropped their computer in the pool or it was stolen. There has to be some way to recover the information that is currently on the iPhone.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

All your purchased music you'll be able to transfer over with no problem. When you connect it to itunes under the same authorized account as your old laptop, it will tell you it detected purchased music and ask if you want to transfer it over.

As for non-purchased music a google search should return what you are looking for. Personally I've never used and of the product but I know if you search the forums a few have been suggested.

You don't want to try and plug your Phone into iTunes because it will ask if you want to erase and sync with the current library (which will be empty aside from the purchased music).

The software I used in the past isn't available anymore, but here is a link to a site that seems legit. http://www.copytrans.net/

Also, here's a link to a step-by-step that apparently doesn't require 3rd-party software but I am NOT sure that this works, but if you want to try it here is the link. http://lifehacker.com/software/ipod/...-pc-105256.php

Red face

There is a program called Senuti (iTunes spelled backwards) that is supposed to be very good.

When I got my new MacBook, I bought the program iPhonedrive which is now called Megaphone. It worked very easily. Geordisjd (if I am spelling her name right) here on this forum told me about it. When you connect your iphone to the new computer, it will lead you through the process of getting all the stuff off the iphone and onto the computer.

There's also the FREEWARE iPhone PC Suite. It's pretty freaking awesome, for a free program.

http://i-funbox.com/ Another freeware program. It's pretty much THE go to program for everyone. You don't even need to be jailbroken. But it works even better with a jailbroken phone.
