Default iPhone not consistently mounting

I've got my iPhone dock attached to a USB 2.0 PCI card on my G4. Sometimes it'll recognize the iPhone when it gets plugged in, and other times it'll just sit there like I haven't done a thing. It works consistently when plugged into the standard 1.0 port on the mac, but I'd kind of like to have my iTunes stuff transfer at more than a snail's pace. Other devices seem to function fine when attached to the 2.0 ports...

Any ideas?

Default

And now I'm getting an "Could not sync with iPhone. Unknown error has occured (-50)" error when I sync. It seems to have properly done the sync, but it errors out instead of finishing successfully. No idea whether this is an iPhone issue, Mac issue, hardware issue or software issue...
