Exclamation Intel Core 2 Duo or Intel Core 2 Extreme?

I am thinking about getting an iMac but am not sure if i should decide between the 2.4ghz intel core 2 duo or the 2.8ghz intel core 2 extreme?

Are the speeds fairly similar or is there an actual noticeable difference?
