Default 6.7GB in Other?? Running out of memory!

What is the orange section marked 'other'. On my iPhone its 6.7GB, is this normal? With my music and stuff, I have less than 3GB on my phone.

Default Large Orange Bar in iTunes?

Trying this again! Anyone know what fills the orange 'gas gauge' up in iTunes and hence my iPhone memory.

Tried cutting the number of saved messages from 50 to 25, didn't help. Its not Apps, Music or pics-someone out there must know.

Tx in advance.

Try shutting the phone off and then back on. It's some kind of clutter and it tends to vary. I could be wrong but my advise won't hurt a thing.

I remember you posting this before and I had no answer to your question, but after you posted again, I just wanted to tell you that I have never seen that much orange on ANY of my three ipod, phone, touch....Something is not right and I think you should take it to apple and have them check it out. Obviously we don't seem to be much help...I will say though, I don't think it is clutter...What clutter could it be to take up gigs of space??

Well I have have 400-500 MB of orange before and I have none now. It has been discussed and it is something fixable I just can't remember how. It may require a hard reset. It seems to me that flushing the system gets it to go away.

It includes saved data by the os... SMS, picture roll, Safari caching, maybe a paging file... Also sometimes errors with iTunes syncing result in a growth in the "other" data.

Thanks acosmichippo and if I'm not mistaken due to those syncing errors the hard reset removes that clutter. As for the OP though, he has another thread (thanks for the tip karenmarchant) in which his other file is 6.7 gigs and so if the hard reset doesn't work he must have a messed up backup that needs to be deleted. These can occur from syncing your phone and giving up because the backup is taking way too long and unplugging it in the middle. Ouch! So with 6.7 gig you are probably going to have to restore as new but try the hard reset first.
