Default Touch Battery time

I have an iPhone 3g (OS3) 16gig and can use it all day on a charge. This would include numerous phone calls, checking email (both network and wi-fi), a little internet surfing, etc... When I went out of the country on vacation and turned everything off and only used it to watch a movie on the plane and to listen to music, I could get a couple of days worth of battery out of it.

My wife recently got a new iTouch (8gig). Even with keeping the wi-fi turned off and location services turned off, she still only gets a few hours on a charge. This is listening to music only (no pictures, no vids, no movies, no internet, etc...).

Is this normal? Does the iTouch have a different battery than the iPhone?
