NEW iPod Touch user needs help

I just bought this amazing gadget. I want to use it for music/video and wifi internet which all works superb. In addition I want to use it as a PDA which is not so great. I am using Windows XP OS and have got calendar and contacts sorted but want to know if there is any way of using tasks or notes ? I read all over the net that notes cannot be sync, but surely there must be an answer. I want to be able to store info on the iPod and sync to my PC, but I dont want to have to use Web based storage if poss.
Any ideas please ?

There is a sync option in i tunes to sync you're contacts, but I'm not sure about calendar.
