Default making ipod touch a storage device....?

hey there, have a quick question, i am kind sure of the answer, you have to make the ipod touch into a portable storage device, i remember reading about it before, but never did it so i'm not sure. anyways here is the question.

wanted to know if you know of an app to backup ipod music/vids to the computer

i have my buddy's ipod touch that he says is acting up so i want to copy all his music/videos to my computer.
know of a good program?

so if anyone knows and can explain or can lead me to how its done, would greatly appreciate it.

Unsure if I can post links to other sites here, but google is your friend (google: enable disk use ipod touch).

One site has a solution for mac users (a modified version of iPhuc), and another offers a solution for pc owners (touchcopy...unfortunately it's no freeware).

I'm sure there are other workarounds to be found, but this should get you started. Good luck.
