Location?

On many apps the Touch wants to use the existing location which is 3 thousand miles from where I live. How do I set the current location to my home or anywhere else I may be?

Unless the app has a preferences/settings pane where you can enter your current location, you may be out of luck. The iPod Touch is only going to be able to use wifi to locate itself, and I don't think that the SkyHook wifi location data that is used has the kind of coverage to provide a high degree of accuracy. The iPhone 3G has both celluar signals and GPS to locate it, so it clearly has the edge on making use of location-based apps.

What apps are you using that give you this problem?

Thanks! That is what I was afraid of.
Some of the apps are: Urbanspoon, Tides, LocalPicks, HotelsNearMe, Here I Am, Nearby. Some of these ask the question and some just pick a location in California where I was working and there does not appear to be a way to relocate where I am, particularly in an App like "Tides". I have tried deleting and reinstalling to find if there was a dialog on the first startup - to no avail.

No problem!

Hmmm, of those apps, I've only used UrbanSpoon and there is an option on the main screen to at least choose your city first. If it helps, I know the OneTap movie app allows you to enter your zip code and set that as your default location, and Yelp offers the ability to enter a city where you want to search. I hope you find more that will be useful for you!

Tides will allow you to set your location. If you hit "Search" you can switch auto to "off". This will allow you to tell it where the default should be.
