Constantly losing my music library....HELP!

I dont know whats happening, everytime I connect my I touch to Itunes when I disconnect it I lose all my music. Then when I connect it back Itunes says :

"Itunes cannot read the contents for this ipod, go to the summary tab in prefrences and click restore to restore to factory setting"

This is tiring, I have done this about 4 times in the last week or so and I cant figure out whats happening. It takes me about two hours everytime it happens to set my itouch back to how I had it, just to lose it again.

Can anyone inform me what I could be doing wrong?

Are you completely ejecting the iPod from iTunes?
