Can't get Roadrunner Exchange to work on iTouch 2.2.1

A similar topic has been discussed in the iPhone forum, but apparently my iTouch is different. I set up Exchange mail with my Roadrunner settings but it fails -- the issue seems to be with the server setup, which I have set to pop-server.nc.rr.com. I have NO option to enter an outgoing server (which is smtp-server.nc.rr.com). In fact, the screen just shows "Server:" w/o indicated incoming or outgoing. I'd gladly settle for just incoming. Yes, I've toggled SSL off. I've tried both the pop and smtp server names to no avail. Roadrunner is no help as they don't support iTouch or iPhones. I'm running 2.2.1 firmware on a 16GB iTouch, model MA627LL. Anyone else seen this, or have any advice?
