Are there any FREE Wi-Fi locators????????? - iPhone 3G

Hi,
I am new to this wonderful and helpful site....... and a fairly new user of the I touch.
I live in Florida and recently took my I touch on vacation... Vancouver, B.C., and Alaska.... coming back through Minnesota, etc......
In the airports and some other places, I could see that I could get a signal or 1/2 of the signal "icon" showing......... but, never could actually connect and use the I touch.
The check mark was in the box.. for places... but could not connect.
Was this because there was just not enough signal to pick it up and use it.
I was told by someone that there are FREE Hotspot locators out there, but, so far, browsing the Internet ... I can not find any.
Can anyone give me any thoughts or help on this.

You can go into settings and go into the wifi menu and itll tell you if there are any networks nearby. Hotspots are located and accessed to the same way.

It is fun driving around looking for wifi spots, but when Wimax rolls out that shouldn't be a problem, problem is I don't know if the current i pod will pick up Wimax as it is a different frequency, so we might have to buy new i pods to get it.

If you are jailbroken, there is an app called Stumbler that works just like the PC app of the same name.

I think he might have been looking for places he could go that offer free WiFi, and not stealing it from people that are probably unknowingly offering WiFi for free, which I would NEVER do by the way...
