i just think it's an unfair double-standard. they already have the software ready to go... it's not like it will take them a significant amount of resources to adapt the 2.0 software for Touches...

not to mention, the main reasons Touch users will want the upgrade is for A) the app store; and B) mobileMe syncing... BOTH of which will bring TONS of income to apple anyway.

And it's not just unnecessary; it's a MISTAKE. Why pay for the update (and, thus, other apple services) when you can get tons of cool stuff for free already through jailbreaking?

I agree with all but your last sentence. I would seriously object in principle to the charge, like you, but I would still end up thinking the benefits of it outweigh my objections to it.

Also, much as I have loved and enjoyed many JB apps, I don't think they'll stand up so well to the App Store onslaught in coming months ...

I bet you'll be able to. Think there will be tons of good business / productivity apps very soon. And games too.

it will probably like 1.1.3.

you click update on itunes and after it finishes, you look for the software upgrade and but it. it is $9.95, the price was lowered. last time it was $20

Features:

-App Store
-Enterprise Support (Microsoft Exchange in email)
-MobileMe support (similar to .mac/check apple for prices)
-better mail management
-contacts search (if you have many contacts, you can find a specific one faster)
-more languages (16, i think)
-reads MIcrosoft PowerPoint & iWork files
-Scientific calculator

I hope this helps. I can't wait for the iphone 3G! If you want more information, watch the keynote on apple.com/iphone

@hitrho5
you confused me on the part where you said how to upgrade. Im new to this upgrade, and i dont understand what you said. There is the upgrade part on the information screen, so what about the "after it finishes, you look for the software upgrade and but it." what do you mean?

I guess he meant that iTunes automatically searches for new software like any other time and then you install it after you make the payment (I think you need your iTunes store account).

Here's what you do:

1: go to itunes and connect iPod/iPhone.
2: click "update" on the screen with your device's information. This will get you the 2.0 firmware, but nothing in your iPod will change.
3: Go to iTunes music store and look for the software upgrade. it costs $9.95.
4: buy upgrade. After it is installed one your iPod, sync it with itunes.
5: Enjoy all the features of 2.0
