Default iPod newbie

My wife and I both have 8GB iPod touch models, mine is about a year old, and hers is new. As a new iPod owner, I have a few questions about the itunes software. First off, I find it anything but user friendly, and quite frustrating to use. I initially loaded mine up with a few songs, an e-book, and some pictures. That was on a laptop I no longer have, and I would like to tranfer the pictures I have to the desktop I am using now. When I look at my device in itunes, it shows the songs and ebook, but none of the pictures. All it does is ask me if I want to sync it with my pictures folder, which I don't. What I would like to do is get these pictures over to my wifes ipod, but I have no idea how to do that.

The syncing thing is nice, but I'd like to be able to just access the unit in an explorer type interface where I could just drag & drop stuff to & from it. This would also make it easier to copy items between the two units. Is this at all possible?

I also have a calendar question, I don't use outlook, is there another (windows) calendar that can sync, so I can make all my entries etc. on the PC rather than the ipod? And, is there a way my wife and I can sync our calendars together? perhaps an online one somewhere like google or yahoo?

One last question, if I click on the little arrow beside my ipod in itunes, it's gone and I have NO idea how to get it to show up again, I can see nothing in any of the menus to do this, I must be missing something.

Any iPod Touch model is strictly a Sync on and not off.

So therefore it's only a one way passage. Meaning you can put music on your touch, And delete it when needed, But you cannot transfer the music back from the touch to the computer.

And also, On an iPod Touch, there is no disk mode, Meaning that you cannot access the device from windows explorer. Sucks I know.

However on older iPod models, e.g the iPod Video, There is an option within iTunes to enable Disk Mode, So therefore the device would be and could be discovered within windows explorer.

Sorry not to answer all of your questions though :/

so, I guess transferring items between the two ipod touches is pretty well out of the question then.. unless there is 3rd party apps that do this?

My photo's on my touch are also not showing up at all in itunes, is there a reason for this?

Not necessarily apps, More like 3rd party applications for you computer.
Although it's only time until a 3rd party app for the touch/phone to enable diskmode.

As for your photos, You have to copy all the pictures you want on you device to 'My Pictures' and there should be a folder there.

Then in iTunes, Select your touch in the left hand menu (Make sure it's plugged in) and then select pictures on the top tabs, Then make it sync to 'My Pictures'.

Then re-sync your whole touch.

Should work now.

Hi, I recently got my 1st ipod touch and I kind of had the same problem; I needed to transfer my music from ipod to Pc. I found software that did it but the songs won't be organized by album or so you can do it manually later, but at least you can have them back on your PC

" ImTOO iPod Computer Transfer " It can transfer iPod music, videos and photos from iPod to your PC
