Question Question about 2.0 versus 1.1.4

This may be a dumb question, and yes, this is my first post, but if I update my touch with the new 2.0 software, does that automatically mean that Installer then won't work? And will I lose all of the apps I have previously downloaded through Installer? I feel like I already know the answer (yes), but wanted to hear it from you guys.

Would you reccommend 2.0, and then download through the new Appstore? Is that stuff (games, utilities, etc.) comparable to the stuff available now through Installer?

If anyone wants to email me directly at tpduggan@charter.net that would be great.

tpduggan, welcome to EIC. Congrats on a good first post. We hope you will continue to contribute!

WRT your question, when you restore or upgrade to a new firmware, your phone will again be "virginized". All jailbroken apps will be removed. If you were to do a restore again to the same firmware version as on your device, you will also lose all apps on your device. This is why folks who have jailbroken abhor the idea of restoring - means reinstalling everything.

2.0 has some performance issues. You can read about them here at EIC. The app store has good potential, but may not offer the same apps as currently available via installer. There is no rush for you to go out and upgrade firmware other than if you have a curiosity. Eventually, 2.0 and above will become the law of iPhone land. Until then, your call.

Thanks, Larry. That's actually what I thought. I think I will keep 1.1.4 for a bit, mull it over. There are some apps I have that I love and would hate to lose. (By the way, do you know if the Appstore has something like iZoo? That one is my favorite.)

Thanks again!

To the OP, first of all welcome to EIC. Two, there is no such thing as a dumb question. Three, at the current moment 2.0 is very unstable on some iPhone's, not all but a lot. I would suggest staying on 1.1.4 at least until update 2.1 comes out.

I haven't seen many posts of the effects of 2.0 on the Touch. You may have to Google that. I just know that 2.0 is screwed up for the iPhone...Mark

Welcome to the forums, TP! Larry gave you a great answer there. Everytime there's an upgrade (especially when jailbreaking is involved), it's a personal decision whether or not to be an early adopter. There are risks and benefits to either way you go, but you have to weigh the pros and cons on a personal level, I think.

For me, I just looooove my 1.1.4JB iPhone... it does everything I want with great stability and reliability. That's a tough thing to give up. I'm really curious to try these Appstore apps and start writing some reviews, but with the bug reports and limited jailbreak app availability, I'm willing to hold off for a bit longer.

Someone here posted a spectacular list of what's currently available on a 2.0 jailbreak. I hope this thread keeps getting updated, for the sake of those of us on the fence still.

Pyslichon, wow I must be getting old and missing things. I had no idea that 2.0 had been jailbroken. I must enter the forum more often. Thanks for the info....Mark

Default Jailbroken 2.0 iPod Touch

Hey there, welcome to the forums.
Anyways, I recently upgraded to 2.0 on my iPod Touch. It was running fine for me without any problems. So, I decided to jailbreak 2.0 on my iPod, and that's also currently running fine without any problems.
