Default 3G on iPod Touch?

I'm sure someone else has already asked this, but I have an iPod Touch 2nd Gen and I was wondering if you can get Internet through the 3G network. If it is a matter of hardware then the iPod Touch can get WiFi, so why can't the code that tells the iPod Touch to look for WiFi be edited to look for a different frequency (3G) or something?

Absolutely not possible. WiFi radios and cellular radios are 2 different things and no software change could make a WiFi radio able to connect to a completely different type of wireless signal.

And even if you wanted to go on a 3G network your going to need a device with a sim port - iPhone 3G.
