Nano not recognizing Nike+ Receiver

Weird thing going on here folks. I bought a 3rd Gen iPod Nano used (from a store thankfully) and I had a Nike+ set for a previous nano that died. The Nano has no problems being recognized by iTunes or the charger but when I plug the receiver it isn't recognized by the iPod. When I do a reset (holding the center and menu buttons) with the receiver plugged in it then recognizes it. However, when I unplug to sync with iTunes and plug it in again it doesn't recognized it again.
I even went and bought another kit from the Apple Store and it does the same thing. Anyone have any suggestions?
