30GB iPod Songs disappeared.

I hadn't used my iPod in a while and it would not come on so I plugged into my PC at work. (This PC has iTunes but I do not use it to sync either my iPod nor my iPhone)

It charge for a short while and I could get it to the menu, but all 18GB of my music is missing, or so I thought.

I have used Winamp to move music on/off the iPod for years with no problem, well all of the music and playlists are viewalble and playable through Winamp but the iPod interface indicates that no songs, playlist, nor audio books are present.

The about screen indicates:

Capacity 27.8GB
Available 9.4GB
Version 1.2

iTunes never started while the iPod was plugged in, did something upgrade through a hidden task while it was plugged in?
