would direct sync to .mac make your life easier?

not sure why it wouldn't be possible for the iPhone to sync at least calender and contacts directly with .mac instead of docking through iTunes. It would be awesome for me whereas, I sync my phone at home which brings my work contacts and calender in through dot mac. If I could sync cal and contacts directly, my calendar would be up to date the minute I accept a meeting, not the next morning after the meeting has already occurred.

I can't sync at work for a few reasons... No 10.4.10, and no iTunes library.
