Default Wifi question about G1 iPhone

Hello, I'm new here and I just have a couple of questions about the G1 iPhone. I am considering about buying a G1 iPhone and was wondering about several issues before I purchase it.

1. If I unlock a G1 iPhone, can I/do I have to activate it?

2. When unlocked, do I have to pay to use the wi-fi as a part of the data plan?

3. Will an unlocked iPhone work with the original AT&T (before the AT&T Cingular merger)?

4. How difficult is it to both Jailbreak and Restore the iPhone if I want to upgrade the firmware?

Thank you all in advance and I hope to become an iPhone owner as many of you are.

1. Yes. Unlocking allows you to use it on other carriers, not use it for free.

2. Wifi will not be on the data plan. You will not have to pay for using wifi.

3. You would not have to unlock a ATT iphone to use it on ATT. You cannot use old ATT plans with the iPhone however. That is the situation I am in right now. You will have to update your plan.

4. Jailbreaking v1 is easy (assuming it is not 2.0 software, which can still be jailbroken). Restroing the phone is even easier. Just search the appropriate forums for answers on how to jailbreak.

What if I were to purchase a pre-activated G1 iPhone from someone locally on Craig's List? Would I still have to upgrade my plan? Because I know that old AT&T customers cannot add Data, Messaging, etc. onto their older plans.

BTW Thank you for answering the questions so quickly.

Edit: I am still confused about the unlocking. Can't I just unlock it so that any sim card I put in works or do I have to select a specific GSM in order to unlock the phone to that?

A preactivated phone? As in they are still paying for it?
The situation is old ATT customers (such as myself) cannot get iPhones. The reason is ATT wants our plans out of the system. Since old plan users cannot add data, they cannot get the iPhone.
You would have to reactivate the iPhone under your name. Unfortunetly you would have to update your plan (cheapest is 450 min, 5000 night/weekend, for 39.99) and add 20 bucks for EDGE data plan.

Sorry about the inconvienience. There is nothing we can do except update our plans.
