Default What Ohio Cingular store told me....

I went to the Beachwood, Ohio Cingular store yesterday. This has prob. already been told but just in case....

- They will close at 4:30, blinds will be put up as they get the store ready.

- Apple Store in Legacy Village (5 min away from cingular store) told them
they are not alowed to "camp" at Legacy Village till midnite the day of.

- They will not know how many they have untill the nite bofore (maybe).

- They also said when you pay the $499 or $599 for the phone that is the
full price, Cingular will not discount.

- When you purchase at Apple store or online you must call a number to
have it activated, there will be nobody at the store to do this.

- Cingular said there is no contract extention needed since the phone is sold
at full price with no discounts.

I hope the no extention part is correct....

not to be selfish or anything, but i dont! i have been waiting for this phone for over a year (following rumors of course)....not buying an ipod, not changing service providers....all to make sure i didnt eff anything up or spend my money stupidly. now that it's almost here. i would hate to think i spent all this time on the SHIZZY t-mobile network with my piece of poo phone, to find out that i could have changed to cingular over a year ago.

No extension no sign-up, lots of e-bay sharks going to make it more difficult to get phones right away.

That is too bad, I was hoping it would be set up so e-bayers would have a tough time. But if it goes like you say, it will be easy for them to snap up a good portion of all the available phones.

I know, I also dont totaly beleve everythign that comes out of the reps mouths... They cant prove all of this... But if you do buy for $499 or $599 at a Apple store and it is not activated there (and I dont see how a Apple store can make you sign a contract anyhow) there is no reason why the person buying needs to activate it at all...how would they make you? And that would suck knowing that people are going to stand in line to buy and resell on eBay... I hope they limit to 1 per person.

If this is true, that would certainly make sense for those purchasing the phone online at Apple stores.

I don't remember where I heard this......but my understanding is as follows:

In order to buy the iphone at 499 or 599 you must take out a 2 year plan. The fact that they don't discount the phone even with the plan is part of what makes it a sweet deal for AT&T. (And their stockholders!)

They get a 2 year agreement without the usual subsidy that would accompany the sale of a lesser phone.

You are taking a 2 year commitment in exchange for the PRIVILEGE of buying the phone at RETAIL!

I bought my girlfriend a Blackjack, I plan to upgrade to a family plan, add another line and then port my Nextel number.

I don't know about contract extensions, but I don't think you can buy a phone without a two year commitment for a new line.

Dude, a year? I have bene waiting for over seven years! I got my first cell phone ever in January of 2000, and I still use it! It is a an old crappy Sprint Samsung! Why have I had the same phone for so long? It works and I haven't had a reason to upgrade.

My boss buys all the latest and greatest phones and then gives them to me to 'make them work'. I almost wanted the Sony Ericson Z800i until I held it my hand and it felt like cheap plastic. The Razor was intriguing until I had to enter all my bosses numbers into his, crappy interface. The Sony Ericson P990i would have been a cool phone if the software didn't crash ever five minutes. Even used an iMate for a while, OMFG! what an awful phone.

Still glad I have my trusty old Samsung, No, email, No camera, no day planner, not even color. But it makes and receives calls.

But now, now, finally the phone I have been waiting for the last seven years is here! (or will be in eight days!) Data plan? IDFC, here take my wallet, just gimmie the damn phone!
