For GOD sake it is just a phone!

If someones life revolves around the "goal" of posing an object like a phone (and there are many on this forum) then that persons reality and mental stability is defiantly in question.

My teenage boys know about the iPhone, but neither one of them is ranting and raving about it. Nor would they consider "camping" out for it.
Ok well yes this does sound like things are out of hand re: Friends vs IPHONES. But let me give you a strong example.

People on this forum are definitely going to be met with negative comments about this cool device. EVERYONE has purchased an expensive item in their life only to be met with comments like "ID NEVER PAY THAT MUCH FOR THAT etc..."
The reason people respond like that is usually because of monetary issues(affordability) but it comes out very negative. Like most people I am insecure. I have an ID...a psyche...a concience...whatever. Its still insecurities and I do resent negative comments.

Also if you decide to illustrate to your teenage boys about what the IPHONE actually is then of couse they would want one. Teenagers are sponges...they soak up information faster than adults so i have a hard time believing a teenager would not want an IPHONE. I am drinking a coffee so I may sound crazy. I value my friends but negativity does exist. I make a living as an entertainer and I cannot afford to be made to feel bad or my confidence knocked around cuz my friends hate on a new device/toy/or necessary item that I like. You can have ALL the self confidence in the world and still be made to feel insecure when your buddy says his stupid "THAT PHONES JUST HYPE" comment. That being said I agree SKYMAN that we should be sympathetic to our friends.

Heck no Bill, (Jim pulls iPhone closer to him) I am still trying to figure it out...maybe later..snicker.

Are you kidding me? You gotta have thicker skin than that if you're going to make it as an entertainer. One bad show and you're gonna feel like ****! It's just a phone... you need to work on your self-esteem issues it sounds like.

People hate on me because I use a Mac... I really couldn't care less what anyone thinks.

I used to (kinda) make fun of this kid in high school, 'cause his whole family was pro-mac....(keep in mind, this was like 10-12 years ago).

Well, NOW-A-DAYS, i'd much rather have a Mac in my home, as my "everyday" computer. But, I won't change over, becaus I work in the IT field, and I like to play games, too. So, moving to a Mac is not really worth it, to me. But, as far as design and interface goes, i've been very impressed by Macs and just about everything "Apple" over the last few years.

I've said it more than once but the name iPHONE is really confusing for what it does. The attitude of others is the similar reaction I got from people in the early 90's when I decided to buy a personal computer for my home. Needless to say I'm making a pretty good living with the computer (not the original one of course). Now I'm planning on getting an iPhone as a new PLATFORM to design and produce for. Phone calls are only secondary in my mind. I'm thinking video podcasts (iTunes, YouTube) Audio podcasts, designing sites to be iPhone friendly and of course considering how others can better use the phone in new and exciting ways. I'll also have a better ability to show clients sites and other features if no Internet access is available at a slow location.

Agreed. I've always thought "iPhone" was not quite the right name for this device. When the subject of the iPhone comes up, all they can talk about is that it's a $600.00 cell phone. I try to explain that it's really a handheld computer that is also a phone, but they still don't get it.

well most people aren't gadget geeks posting on forums either...

we just happen to so spend our money on gadgets... other people spend their money on clothes, golf (clubs), wives (those whipped bastards!), etc.
