The calcium in the water will leave deposits on whatever it dries on inside of an electronic device. These Water markers are just a faster way for people to check for water damage without actually having to open up the unit and look for water deposits.

im not sure if warranty covers water damage... but if it does, you should actually call them up over the phone, it will take a little longer, and they should actually give you a brand new phone. thats what they did for me a few days ago and I had a 4gb, and they gave me an 8gb! im not sure if the stores are doing that as well, just complain with them if it does support water damage.

thank you.

I have 2 i phones side by side, one was dropped in water and one wasn't.

the indicator on one was red and the other remained white, this is definitely not BS.

here is the video proving that the phone was dropped in water

unfortunately my camera cannot get a good shot inside the hole.

On a previous phone that I had with a different carrier the indicator turned red at the sign of moderate moisture but when you looked closely it was a red cross on a white dot. When the phone was totally immersed in water the entire dot turned red not just the center cross section. It is possible that the same is true here. Humidity or a drop of water may not affect the color of the dot at all where immersion may make it turn red.
The last phone was with Verizon and when I took the phone in with problems, the tech looked at the sticker and told me that the malfunction on the phone did not appear to be caused by water even though the red cross was showing because the sticker indicated that it had only been in contact with high humidity such as being in rain (I am a motorcycle rider) and was not immersed in water so the warranty still applied and they fixed it.

Why the hell would you do that? Was it insured, did you get a new one?

Of course no one ever made anything up on a forum just to get attention. That would be just shocking!

I just dropped my iPhone in the kitchen sink... now where did I put my bottle of whiteout?

My buddy got lucky. He washed his iPhone and the indicator didn't change color so he was able to get a new one.

Normally I'm not one to call someone a liar when it comes to relating personal experiences, but I find two things painfully wrong with your story.

1. How the heck does anything become "engulfed" in condensation just by sitting next to a drink?

2. I was one of those people stupid enough to be using my iPhone while on the toilet and accidentally dropped it in(after flushing thank gawd). Yet during the approximately five seconds it was fully submersed, and the subsequent thirty seconds that it took me to fish it out, dry it and a finger off, and then perform a full power-down, the phone was still happily playing the episode of House that I was watching beforehand. And even now, nearly a month later it's still working like new. So either you got a really defective unit or there's a few key details you're leaving out.
