There is no indicator in the headphone jack. There might be somewhere else on the phone, but its not inside the headphone jack.

And how do you know with such certainty?

All I know is that I wouldn't post a picture of the serial number of my $600 phone in a public forum. But that's just me...

You don't need to prove anything to the knowitalls who are trying to tell you that somehow your experience is wrong... That somehow you'd make all this up for whatever reason.

Just move on and let the cynics be cynical... you'll never change them.

If this is true, and I do believe you now, WTF APPLE!?

This is seriously one of the biggest mistakes Apple made with the iPhone.

Why is it a mistake? A phone that no one can open except service centers... where do you suggest they put it? Other phones put it under the battery, where every store/dealer can check it. Looks like a perfect solution to me. It seems that you're assuming it won't work. How do you know? It apparently worked in this case. Do you think Apple didn't test their water damage indicator and that it just doesn't work and they don't know it?

Well, it depends how sensitive it is. If its like most cell phone stickers, then putting it where it can easily be subjected to humidity is a really bad move.

Condensation forming from being in a dry cooled environment and going to a hot humid environment is more likely to happen internally around the battery than it is in the headphone jack which is open to the air, and will warm up and dry out faster than the internals.
If this is the case, then the water detection spot is actually a good idea.

I think this could be a mistake because sometimes when I pull my phone out of my pocket there is sweat on the screen. Now if it is there it could very easily be in the jack. I believe the purpose of the indicator is to make sure it hasn't been submersed in a pool, toilet, river, etc. But if my sweat caused it to change color and they gave me a hard time about the indicator being changed........I might not be a happy camper. I don't know if it is possible for this indicator to change without submersion. If it could because of its location near an opening of the phone, this could possibly affect anyone who sweats or lives in an extremely humid environment.
