So why are the older V1 8GB phones selling higher than a brand new 16GB 3G phone?

Or how much does the 3G 16GB come out to be out the door?

The v1 phones are selling so high because t-mobile's 3G network is incompatible with at&t's...... soo, a 3G phone would only give t-mobile users GPS and nothing else. On top of all new 3G phones going on ebay for a 1,000 bucks, its cheaper to get an unlocked v1.

Yah I know, I wasn't going to upgrade to a 3G, cuz I don't even have 3 G in my area, until 2 things happened:

I realized it would be at worst a financial wash when I saw the prices the V1 phones were fetching.

I received a brand new V1 phone on 7/16 as a replacement due to a defective screen on my old one.

So when I got the new one I said damn, this has got to be worth something to someone. So I jailbroke and unlocked it, keeping the plastic on the screen and the whole thing smudge and fingerprint free and it's on ebay now, essentially in 'as-new' condition. Made it a 3 day auction and it's up to $305 after the first day. I think it's the best (8GB) phone being offered so it should do well, but we'll see. It even carries the 90 day warranty over to the next owner.

I just received my new white 16GB 3G phone today... I like it a whole lot better than I thought I would. I carefully preserved all the packing mat'ls, anticipating repeating this excercise a year from now...

Don't think so. Welcome to the wacky world of downgrading.

I just got $400 for my V1 8Gig (unlocked and jailbroken). Sold in about 3 hours on the Bay. They seem to be selling like hotcakes up there.

I got $455 about 3 weeks ago. This is a common price point for the v1 iPhone. There are a lot of over seas people that want an unlocked iPhone with no contract that they can just put their SIM card in and be done with it. There will be a high demand of v1 for quite some time.

Well, I got screwed.... again.... The high bidder wasn't a bidder at all, a bogus account. So instead of ebay letting me give it to the next highest bidder, they canceled the whole thing and I had to re-do the whole auction...

But to 2.0, it can be unlocked and jail broken. My unlock guy can and has done it.
