Using iPhone w/ no account

I have a first gen iPhone that has no SIM card. I'd like to sync it to iTunes and essentially use as an iTouch (games, music, video - don't need wireless connection.)

Is there a way to do that? I've restored it and updated to 3.0 (probably a mistake) and whenever I try to sync it all I get is the Activate Your Phone screen on iTunes.

Any thoughts on what I can do here?

unlock and jailbreak using redsn0w. You can keep the 3.0OS on there, it works just fine.

You don't have to put a SIM in there, but every once in a while it's going to remind you that there is no SIM card installed, and it will constantly say No Sim on the status bar.
