People were never forced to upgrade to GSM or UMTS. However, they did add a 5 dollar surcharge for using TDMA equipment.

No, I cannot hook you up with an iPhone early or at discount. Sorry.

My point was that they quit selling TDMA phones and also quit activating them (or so I thought). Evidently, they'll still do it, but with an additional charge. All those TDMA customers that are still on Cingular/At&t are actually roaming on another network other than Cingular/At&t.

i disagree. a cingualr contract and a at&t contract make no difference, same company, In fact there are no at&t stores in this state and at least 50 cingular stores if not more. This is probably in order to make sure they have supply to meet demand. You can expect this to change within a few months of release.

Welcome to EiP.

All Cingular stores will be branded At&t stores by the 20th (according to posts from store managers). Cingular has changed to At&t. The old At&t Wireless service is gone for good. This is an entirely new company.
