I got an iPhone 2g off Craigslist today and upgraded it to 3.1.2 through iTunes. After it was upgraded I jailbroke and activated the phone succsesfully. Wifi works, all apps work. However I have no signal bars. I installed ultrasn0w through cydia and now the phone says searching for a few minutes, then no service.
I then downgraded phone to 3.0 through iTunes and jailbroke and activated phone. Same result, no signal bars. Phone currently has version 3.0 and surfs web fine through wifi but no signal at all.
Someone please point me in the right direction. I am interested in baseband options, but do not know enough about baseband to fully believe this is the cause or I should start downloading programs to upgrade/downgrade.
Hey Rooster I am having a similar problem with my 2g. I upgraded through itunes and think my baseband was upgraded too. I jailbroke through blackra1n.
What I found from reading online is that ultrasn0w isn't for the 2g--it's 3g. Try going into Cydia and installing BootNeuter 2.10. I think the specs you need to have are 4.6 selected, Neuter yes, unlock yes (don't quote me on that just google the bootneuter directions). This was what I read to unlock the 2g after you jailbreak with blackra1n.
My problem, however, is that I did everything with bootneuter and still didn't get any signal bars and I'm stuck on what to do next. Everytime I try to restore through iTunes with a custom 3.1.2 firmware I get error 1611.
