I think he's full of crap. the phone needs our data service to even operate. I didn't see any user-configurable data settings that he could even reset to t-mobile's service. and forget about visual voicemail

I'll post if/when I get my unlock code...

I guess we will just have to wait and see. If these guys can't do it, it will be only be a short time before someone else can

I don't doubt they'll unlock it soon enough, and since all the unscrupulous eyes in America are looking at the iPhone it'll happen a damn sight faster than it would to most phones but it'll take more than a few hours. Nokia have phones that are about two years old that still require you to hire a USB dongle in order to unlock. Being able to do it through a website seems kinda absurd. At the very best, without being on an AT&T network you won't be able to use a lot of network dependent features, like the Visual Voicemail.

    From ZDNet:

"SIM card experiences: I then popped my T-Mobile SIM in the iPhone and this appeared on the display:
Incorrect SIM: This iPhone must be used with an approved SIM.
However, even with the T-Mobile SIM in there the WiFi DOES work. So it seems you may be able to get it “unlocked” and activated with an AT&T SIM and then use it as an iPod and WiFi connected device after that."

So it sounds as you can do anything, except making a call, text messaging and voice mail.

Exactly. You have to go through the normal AT&T activation process. I would also be satisfied with the iPod, Internet, camera etc. -- until it will be released in Europe in 6 months or so. I'm not that talkative anyway.

Having said that, there are a couple of unlocking "projects" under way at this point of time. The following days will be very interesting.
