Lightbulb Unlocking iPhone (BS or not BS)

Ok guys and the few gyals that are in here :

I just had an interesting conversation with a local cellphone sales person.
Now, I don't know if this is BS or not but he say that a few days after the iPhone comes out, he will be able to remove the subsidy lock on the iPhone.
At the same time a light bulb went off in my head....I have T-Mobile at the moment and still under contract until next year august ( yuck ! ).
I was thinking if this dude is for real in unlocking the iPhone I asked "what if I bought the phone from Apple or AT&T and cancelled before the 14 day contract trial period is up and just unlock it with you ( if its true ). He said " no no my friend ( indian dude ).....cancelling the contract before the 14 days is no problem, but you will have to return the phone. I asked why?. He said its because you are signing a contract with AT&T and you are getting a subsidy on the phone ( reduced pricing ). This now raises a few questions :

a). Isn't the iPhone already at full price?
b). Do I have to return the phone if I cancel within the 14 day trial peroid?(if its at full pricing )

( I know a few of the features wont work with the iPhone with another carrier, he said also as long as you have a data plan, the phone will work)
(he also said if you dont return the phone they will screw your credit up, my friend.....)

what do you think?

If you think your friend can really unlock the phone, then just buy it from Apple.com and you won't even have a contract yet. Unfortunately, you'll probably be forced to have an At&t data plan to use all the features like visual voicemail.

#1 according to the e-mail this morning I think your going to have to activate it through iTunes and there may be some security there when you plug it in idk.

#2 I don't trust what indian people say when it comes to cell phones, sunglasses, or jewelry (if you have ever been to a mall you know what I mean)

#3 idk

I don't know that there will be a subsidy lock, because there may be no subsidy.

Rumor exists that the phone essentially won't work correctly unless it can connect to the data network. So all the hocus pocus in the world may mean very little.

I think this whole conversation belongs to the "Gonna have to wait and see" category of answers.

#1 - don't think so. I think you will sync your contacts, appointments, and pictures (as well as music and movies) through iTunes. Setup your phone, doesn't mean activate your phone.

Just because you had a bad experience with one or more Indian person, you can not take that out on a nation as a whole
