Default unkown icon

i have a unknown icon next to the battery life icon, it appears to be a phone shape w/ 7 dots under it. any thoughts?

It's the TTY symbol. You can turn it off in settings.

WOW! It just struck me. If I turn it on will I have MORE volume????

No, it's setup to work with hearing aids- as far as I know. it's not a volume increase at all.

Interesting... this made me go to the Apple site to see what TTY was all about. Apparently, to use a TTY machine, you need this adapter:

... for $19. Anyone wanna bet it does exactly what the $9.95 Belkin headphone adapter does? Or a $4 adapter off Ebay does? I could be wrong, but I'm guessing I'm not, and that's just wrong.
