Default To Upgrade or Not To Upgrade.......

Do most feel that the addition of 3G is enough to make the switch to the new phone or would it take much more to change. GPS & voice command would be big for me. Also, when you remove your SIM card, does that remove your contacts, etc. ? Thanks in advance.

it is not enough for me. In salt lake city the AT&T people have said that even with full 3G coverage it will only be about a 4x - 5x speed gain (take with a grain of salt of course) and GPS is not incentive for me to upgrade. Since I don't dump stuff on the phone 8gig is plenty - so far since we don't have a ton of detail on those yet. (network hungry, large in size, etc) . Most other things are software solutions, like voice dialing, video (at least as far as proof of concept), and general phone reliability.

I figure I will get sucked in and upgrade, but it needs to be very significant as I will have to face the wrath of the wife. Hopefully AT&T will subsidize this time around or I am a no go for sure.

oops, no, removal of your sim card does not do it. All you info, contacts, music, etc are still there.

I will be staying with my current phone. Looking more forward to the app store.
If you are asking about the sim card because you want to sell the phone, you need to restore to a new phone and keep the sim card. I would also unlock it to bring a better price.

I plan to wait until it has been out for a few months, just as I did with my current phone. That way people can slam it or praise it and I can evaluate whether it is worth the money or not. In the end, 3G, the possibility of GPS as well as other neat new features will probably upgrade. I still impress folks with mine.

I think the new iPhone is totally worth upgrading to. I haven't been able to connect to many Wi-Fi hotspots...I think the 3G is a tremendous upgrade. Get it!

If 3G is readily available in your area and you're wanting faster page loads then I say go for it. I'll be getting 3G because of the applications I hope to be released via the App Store. Even if the apps I want aren't made I'll still have a faster connection and possibly GPS. Also, I have an iDay 8GB and it's just too small for my library, so I'm hoping for a 16GB or even better a 32GB version.

Does changing over to the new iphone require you to cancel your at&t account and get a new one? Or is it as simple as just activate the new phone via itunes like we did with the old one? ..Thanks

Quite sure you will activate via itunes. What we don't know yet is weather you will have to have a new 2 yr agreement or not. We may not even know this Monday if the phone is just announced and not released until later.

3G means a very small amount to me. I don't care simply. Unless there is a huge enlightenment of v2 between now and the launch, I will be sticking with the old, geezer-esque version one.
