Default Texting- Error invalid # please resend

I've had this recurring problem while sending text messages to people I have successfully texted from my Iphone. It says the number is invalid and to resend. This occurs while trying to reply to a text sent to me as well as intiating a new text. I've cleared the history of messages and that helps in some cases but not all. Is this a bug? I'm running 1.4 and the problem is worse now since i've updated. I have not jailbroken ( yet ).
Any ideas? Is is time for a restore?
Thanks in advance and I did do a search on this topic before posting

I had this problem. here was my situation. the people I was trying to text had the same area code as me, so I did not have the area code in my address book.

so I added the area code to the address book. that alone did not fix it.

I then had to go to my main list of texts (where it shows everyone I have texted)... hit the edit button... then delete that person from my list.

That fixed it for me. maybe it will help you.

Hey, Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. Unfortunately that did not fix my problem. I will restore when I get home from work this morning. Its the wackiest thing though. Hope the restore does the trick.
