Question Text Messaging Alert Question

So the thing I like about most phones is the ability to have the phone on silent, yet it will vibrate on incoming texts. I have messed with the options all day and can't get it set right. Either I get a beep and a vibration, even with sound all the way down, or I get nothing. Need some help. Thanks

try the vibrate/ringer button found on the top left side of the iPhone. Its actually a slider switch not a button

options for alerts:

1) ring only
2) ring and vibrate
3) vibrate only
4) nothing

switch on the side will turn on and off the ringer. You need to go into the settings to turn on and off the vibrate feature.

i just wish there was a way to not get full text msg to pop up on your screen when you get it. maybe just an indicator that says new message received and from whom. everybody and there dog that is near you can read your message when it pops up. like for instance, i was at a bar with my buddies saturday watchin the Cowboys game and my fiancee sends me a rather explicit message trying to entice me to come home. well, my phone was laying on the table and everyone could read it. luckily most of them were too drunk to make much out of words on a small screen without concentrating!
